Having planned many styles and kinds of martial arts Bruce Lee shaped his own technique. He transformed his skills into science, art, philosophy and the way of life and called it as "Jeet Kune Do". So how is Jeet Kune Do renowned from other kinds of martial arts? Development of the harmony of the physical and spiritual state of a person lays naturally in the JKD. Jeet Kune Do is one of the most precious assets among the martial arts, its followers concern to the generally adaptable equipped masters of fight in the world.
We've undergone training in challenging conditions, designed to cultivate our skills for real-life combat. The essence of Jeet Kune Do revolves around movement, involving footwork, strikes, maneuvers, hand-to-hand combat, throws, counterattacks, and defensive blocks. It's a perpetual dance of motion, while simultaneously representing a stream of inner peace that comes with awareness, vulnerability, and intuition.
Jeet Kune Do is a path to enlightenment. It's not just a martial art but a way of life, fostering a strong will and self-control. View Jeet Kune Do through the lens of personal growth. Forget about the need for victory or the fear of defeat, set aside your ego and pain. Prioritize the safety of avoiding conflict by placing your life above the need to prove yourself. To truly grasp Jeet Kune Do, you must discard preconceived notions of ideals, models, and styles. In essence, it's about rejecting the very concept of ideal versus non-ideal within Jeet Kune Do itself. This art simplifies life by encouraging authenticity. It's about being yourself, embracing the reality of your existence. The true value lies in the freedom to act without constraints, rules, or limitations.
Jeet Kune Do draws inspiration from various martial arts styles and principles, without pigeonholing itself within any specific framework. Its founder believed that a fighter should remain adaptable, reacting according to the situation, selecting tactics and methods that lead directly to victory. Each strike should be an expression of the self. As Bruce Lee, the founder of Jeet Kune Do, once said, "In classical styles, the system becomes more important than the individual." Classical styles adhere to specific rules and forms, which can stifle creativity and limit the feeling of freedom. Instead of simply going through the motions mechanically, you should act directly when the situation demands it. By breaking free from the constraints of established methods and routines, you'll see your opponent clearly, without the hindrance of rigid techniques.
Different martial arts styles emphasize straight-line or circular movements. However, by being locked into a particular style, you limit your adaptability. True understanding comes when you can break free from traditional responses and embrace a fresh, open-minded approach. Jeet Kune Do aims to liberate you, offering a broad, shapeless foundation that can accommodate a variety of forms. It doesn't conform to any specific style, which means it can adopt and integrate elements from any martial art that can help achieve its ultimate goal: efficiency in combat.
